HOW TO PLAY FRENCH ROULETTE?
This version of roulette has a revolving wheel with 37 slots (also called houses), with numbers ranging from 0 to 36. Players always play against the house and pick, on the table layout, the types of bets they want to place.
All games have their pay tables available, where you'll find the paid odds for both inside and outside bets, which will now be explained with more detail.
What is inside bets and outside bets?
The following are considered inside bets:
- Individual number;
- Separated (2 numbers)
- Line (2 numbers)
- Corner (4 numbers)
- Top line (numbers 0, 1, 2, 3)
- Street (6 numbers in adjacent rows)
The following are considered outside bets:
- the 2nd and 3rd column (12 numbers)
- the 2nd and 3rd dozen
- red or black
- Even or odd
- Low half (1 to 18)
- High half (19 to 36)
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT FRENCH ROULETTE?
Like it was said before, the French Roulette is almost identical to the European Roulette, except for two very special rules. In French roulette, you will also find the “sharing” and “in prison” rules, which are very advantageous for the players.
Why do players love these two rules? Let’s find out!
The first rule that distinguishes French Roulette from European Roulette is known as the “En Prison” (in prison) rule. In "in prison", every time the ball lands on the zero house, the player who made an outside bet can choose between receiving half the amount of their initial bet, or leaving the amount as a credit for the next play, in an all-or-nothing style, which means he loses if the ball lands on zero or any number other than the one chosen.
If you choose the second option, ‘En Prison’, the croupier’ will place a mark on your bet to signal that it is stuck’. Then, on the next spin, if you win, you win the corresponding prize. If you lose, you lose the entire bet. In this case, it goes without saying that the option of receiving half the stake is the choice of the vast majority of players.
It remains to be remembered, however, that if the ball lands on the zero house again, you will not have another chance to choose 'En Prison' and you will also lose your entire bet!
Sometimes this rule also applies in European roulette, in some casinos, but it is quite rare that the house offers it. So, the big difference is that the ‘En Prison’ rule in French roulette is always available!
And second, there is the “La Partage” (sharing) rule, which also reduces the house advantages, but works slightly different from the “En Prison” rule. In “sharing”, whenever the ball lands on the zero house, bettors who played in the outdoor area receive half of their bet amount. This rule exists only in French Roulette and it's more advantageous for the player's odds, as it reduces the weight that the zero (0) board has on the house advantage.
In conclusion, in French roulette, if you are playing outside bets and the ball drops to zero, you have two options:
La Partage: Collect only half of your bet and let the dealer collect the rest for the house;
En Prison: Leave your entire bet on exactly the same bet and wait for the next spin.
And that’s what makes the French Roulette special and one of players favorite online casino games.
HOW TO INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING AT FRENCH ROULETTE
There's no bulletproof math method for any of the many casino games, but there are betting patterns that can boost your winning chances. There are some games where strategy can play a bigger role than others. Roulette is a game of pure luck or chance, in which you can win a lot of money at a lucky moment. You really just need to know the rules of the game.
Some players only like to play casino games if they can engage in some sort of planned strategy. Even though, like mentioned before, there are no invincible roulette strategies but if you are one of hose players that feels safer playing according to a predetermined strategy, you can try out two of the methods most used by your players — the Martingale strategy and the James Bond strategy.
In conclusion, there really is no secret to playing French roulette. Its rules are like any other version, with more benefits to the player thanks to the “sharing” and “in prison” rules, and also with its diminished house edge value.
So, before you start playing, spend some time studying the rules and differences between the different types of roulette: European, American, but also French. Choose the roulette that best suits your personality and your goals, but never forget to follow a careful bankroll management in any variant.
The fact that your odds on European or French roulette are much higher than on American does not mean that you will always win or that you will win much more money in one than the other!
So now just put the teachings into practice and… Have fun!
