Online Blackjack
Thanks to the high odds and the comparatively short duration of rounds, blackjack is a popular gambling game. But this does not exclusively apply to traditional casinos: Blackjack is also enjoying an increasing level of popularity in the virtual world. Therefore, before planning a trip to Las Vegas, you may try out gambling in online casinos first.
In the following article, we explain some important basics around online blackjack and what you can do to increase your chances of winning.
What is online blackjack?
In principle, the rules and the course of online blackjack do not differ from conventional blackjack.
In addition to the solo variant, there is also the option of live blackjack, where players compete directly against a real live dealer who shuffles and deals the cards. HD cameras ensure authentic live broadcasting so that you can follow the game via live transmission.
Before you can start gambling, you have to register in an online casino and deposit some money. As soon as this money has been credited, you may virtually select a table of your choice. In addition to classic online blackjack, there are also numerous variants such as Blackjack VIP, Power Blackjack or Speed Blackjack.
No matter which version of online blackjack you eventually decide on, players will be guided through the game and simply have to click through. Moreover, pay-out rates are usually just as high as they would be in traditional blackjack. Normally, players are informed about the correspondingly applicable minimum and maximum bets in advance.
Online blackjack explained
Generally, blackjack is played on a semi-circular table with French-suited playing cards (regular card deck). A maximum of six players can take part in one game. Side bets and other wagers may be placed on so-called betting fields.
The aim of the game is to trump the dealer’s hand while not going above 21.
Unlike other types of gambling, you do not play against other players, but against the dealer.
It is therefore possible to win with a total of 19 compared to another player that wins with a total of 20 since both are compared to the dealer only. If a player’s total exceeds 21, they lose. There are more details to it but generally, these are the blackjack basics.
Besides, in online blackjack, there are usually other terms to familiarise yourself with:
Splitting Pairs
It is possible to split if a player has two cards of equal value in the opening rounds. Then the player can continue to play with two hands. Each additional hand consequently has the same bet. However, it is recommended not to split 15s or 10s.
Hit/Stand
"Hit" means taking another card in order to improve your hand total. If your first two cards are satisfactory, you can "stand" (by waving your hand). By doing so, the dealer will move on to the next player.
Doubling Down
If a player has 9, 10 or 11 points, there is the option of doubling your initial wager in order to receive another card. In any case, the risk should always be weighed up accordingly. But especially if the player has a count of 11, doubling down usually makes sense and increases your chances of winning.
Bet Behind
When all table seats are occupied, it is possible to bet on another player’s hand. This means that the player has a chance of winning even if he is not actively participating in the game. The disadvantage of this strategy, however, is that the inactive participant is completely dependent on the other person's game tactics.
Tips and tricks for online blackjack
- Especially for beginners, it is advisable to gradually build up your knowledge and to start with simple techniques. This will give you enough time to analyse and understand blackjack in every detail.
- To increase your own chances of winning, it is advisable to familiarise yourself with different strategies. To do so, a blackjack strategy table is often used.
- Once you have practised with a free demo version and have gotten a feeling for the game, we recommend getting a bonus (e.g., welcome bonus) to reduce the risk of loss when playing with real money.
